Duck Softball: Good depth at most positions for 2012
EUGENE, OR - The Oregon softball team is ranked 11th nationally in the preseason, but Pac-12 coaches picked the Ducks to finish seventh in the conference.
Head coach Mike White (3rd season) likes the depth he has at nearly every position with the exeception of pitcher where senior-to-be Sam Skillingstad is out for 2012, taking a medical hardship with a back injury.
Oregon opens its season this Friday at a tournament in Tempe, AZ. The Ducks will play UC Santa Barbara at 10am followed by a game against New Mexico at 5:30pm. Oregon will play five games in three days at the tournament.
The Ducks home opener is Tuesday, March 13th against Alabama. Former Marist star Kayla Braud returns to Eugene for that game.
"I feel really good," said White. "I think we're deep at a lot of key positions more so than in other years, especially in the outfield. We have a good blend of speed and power. We're not quite as deep in the pitching as I want because we had an offseason injury. Jessica moore is firing on all cylinders right now."
