EUGENE - The No. 9 University of Oregon softball team (23-4) kicked off its home slate with 10-0 and 4-0 doubleheader wins over New Mexico (13-16) in its home opener.

In her 4-0 victory in game two, freshman Cheridan Hawkins struck out 13 batters in her 6.1 innings - the sixth-best 'K' total in school history.

That total was also only two shy of her season high in six innings vs. Boston College two weekends ago (15), and three off the school record (16).

"It was wonderful to to finally pitch at home," Hawkins said. "I did my best to try and focus in Janell's zone, and not pay attention to anything else. The whole team is clicking in all phases, and we're excited for the Pac-12 games around the corner."

The Anderson, Calif., native also gave up only one hit Wednesday - a third-inning bunt single - and one walk.

At the plate, the Ducks scored all four of their runs the fourth inning.

Junior shortstop Courtney Ceo and sophomore center fielder Janie Takeda led off with singles, and junior first baseman Kailee Cuico followed with a two-run single.

After a single by junior DP Alexa Peterson loaded the bases, freshman left fielder Koral Costa lined an RBI single down the right field line.

The Ducks' final run came the next at-bat on a ground-out by freshman catcher Janelle Lindvall.

At the plate, Takeda (2-for-3) posted her team-leading 14th multi-hit game of the season, and upped her hitting streak to 12 games.

The returning All-Pac-12 Freshman Team choice upped her season average to a team-best .500 on the year and also paces the team in hits (43), homers (5), total bases (56) and stolen bases (14).

Six other Ducks hit safely once.

"I didn't even know Cheridan was that close to the record," Oregon head coach Mike White said. "I told her to just take one batter at a time. At the plate, Courtney (Ceo) and Janie (Takeda) did a good job setting the table today, just like all season."

For UNM, right-handed pitcher Lauren Soles (6-5), struck out four, walked none, allowed eight hits, and all four of her runs allowed were earned.

At the plate for the Lobos, right fielder Cassandra Kalapasa collected the team's lone hit, and Kaity Ingram also walked.

Earlier Wednesday, the Ducks beat UNM by a 10-0 count in six innings, thanks to a one-hit complete game by senior Jessica Moore.

Altogether now on the season, Duck pitchers have held opponents to one hit in seven contests in '13.

In Wednesday's opener, Takeda hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to cap the team's 10-0, six-inning victory.

In the circle for UO, senior Jessica Moore (12-3) logged a one-hitter in her fourth complete game of the season.

The returning All-American struck out four and walked one in her 13th start of the season.

At the plate, the Ducks hit a season-high four doubles, thanks to a pair of two-baggers by Peterson, and others by freshman shortstop Karine Shaver and senior right fielder Samantha Pappas.

Peterson's pair ranked third-most in school history, while Pappas climbed into a tie for 10th all-time for Oregon with her 33rd career-wise.

Altogether, three Ducks ended with multiple hits - Janie Takeda (2-for-4, 3 RBI), Peterson (2-for-2, 3 RBI) and senior Allie Burger (2-for-3).

For UNM, starting pitcher Kaela DeBroeck (2-4) struck out none, walked three, gave up 10 hits, and five of her 10 runs allowed were earned.

The Lobos' lone hit came from Mariah Rimmer - a two-out single to left field in the first inning.
