Dakota Cavens is student-athlete of the week

By Dan Bain

ROSEBURG - Roseburg high junior Dakota Cavens is still trying to find his groove on the mound this spring, but last Saturday, the righthander shut down South Eugene on 4 hits in leading the Indians to a victory over the Axemen. He's been gradually improving and he's hoping that'll help get the Indians into the state playoffs.

"I didn't really start off slow and as the season's gone on I've gotten little bit better like each game, I've been working hard in practice just trying to get command of the fastball," said Cavens.

He holds a 3.7 GPA and works hard to keep the grades up, with an eye towards college when he graduates next year.

"Yeah, I try to study whenever I can, lot of colleges look at that."

But right now he's concerned about making the playoffs and making a better showing than last year, when he Indians went one and out.

That's Dakota Cavens of Roseburg High School, our KPIC Cascade Community Credit Union student-athlete of the week.
