Roseburg softball sweeps Grants Pass
Mikayla Endicot lets it fly for one of her 18 strikeouts in first game of doublheader By Dan Bain
ROSEBURG - Roseburg came back from 1-0 deficits in both games against Grants Pass Saturday to win a crucial doubleheader between the first and second place teams in the Southwest Oregon Conference.
In the first game, the Indians gave up a run early on an error, but in the 7th, Nikki Bassett smashed a solo homerun to tie the game 1-1. The game went to the 10th inning and under the rules, the last out of the last inning starts out as a runner at second.. that was Alyssa Desbiens, who was sacrificed to third, by Tori Walker. Then Kendra George hit a ground ball to shortstop and Desbiens beat the throw to the plate to give the Indians a 2-1 win. In the second game, Roseburg pitcher Mikayla Endicott gave up a run in the first, but the Indians came back in the 4th to tie it. Desbiens led off with a double and scored on a base hit by Breanne Thomas to make it 1-1. The Indian defense came up with some big plays to keep it tied until the bottom of the 7th. Catcher Tori Walker singled to start the inning. She was sacrificed to second and went to third on a ground out. But after the out was made the ball was overthrown at 3rd and Walker scored the game-winner giving the Indians a tough sweep. Roseburg moves to a 3 game lead over the second place Cavegals and have won all 3 over Grants Pass in the season series. |
