ROSEBURG - The KPIC-TV Cascade Community Credit Union Student Athlete of the Week is a junior softball player at Roseburg.

Nikki Bassett is the starting second baseman for the Roseburg softball team and has been a big key defensively as well as a number two hitter in the Indians lineup.

Nikki came up with the biggest hit of her life last Saturday, when the Indians trailed Grants Pass 1-0 in the bottom of the 7th inning, and she smashed a pitch over the left field fence to tie the game and and send it to extra innings, where the Indians won it in the bottom of the 10th.

"That's the first homerun I've ever hit in my whole life, over the fence, first time," said Bassett

Nikki has a 3.14 GPA and is a quiet and humble player that just does the job, and does it well.

The team said Nikki has been playing well, and she was just glad to contribute. "We're really happy we're in an excellent position and we just need to keep doing what we're doing."
