Roseburg baseball team splits with Sheldon

ROSEBURG - The Roseburg baseball team finished the league season with a split at home Saturday.

The Indians got behind early in the first game, and trailed 8-0 in the 5th inning. But their bats came alive and they scored 7 runs in the inning to get back in it.

Roseburg tied it in the 7th to send it into extra innings, but Sheldon got two in the top of the 11th to get the first game victory 10-8.

In the second game, Roseburg broke loose with two in the fourth inning.

Jordan Guthrie's hot smash got by Sheldon rightfielder Brett Coffee, scoring Boone Farrington who had walked, and sending Guthrie to third.

He scored moments later on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.

The Indians added two more in the fifth on RBI singles by Farrington and Guthrie.

They added one more in the 6th when catcher Vince Ampi drive in Derek Priestly with a single to make it 5-0

Matt Thompson was sailing along with a shutout into the 7th when he gave up a single, then hit a batter before Coffee hit a shot over the right field fence to make it 5-3.

But that was it for the Irish as the Indians gain a split and finish in second place in the Southwest Conference.
