ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The Umpqua Valley Open Tennis Championships wrapped up Sunday with some outstanding players battling for the championship.

In the 51st annual tennis tournament at the Hoffman Tennis Center at Stewart Park, the two men that were expected to be in the finals made it.

Angelo Niculescu from the Portland area earned his way to the finals, and he met up with another man from the Portland area, Roman Borvonov.

They battled it out for the championship under the warm sunshine Sunday morning, and Borvonov won the tight battle 7-6 and 6-4, to take the title and the $1,000 top prize.

Niculescu was the champion last year, beating Bart Scott in the singles final.

The tournament didn't get any female entrants for the tournament this year, and had to cancel the women's open competition.

In the men's open doubles, the winners were Jonathon Endrikat and Bradley Erickson over Borvonov and Alexander Wallace 6-0 and 6-2.
