Roseburg soccer teams share conference titles
By Jason Hink, Douglas County Sports OnlineIt was a good day for Roseburg soccer as both the boys' and girls' teams captured a share of a Southwest Conference championship. Josh Malone and Matt Ungerman each scored a goal in the Indians 2-1 victory over South Medford Saturday afternoon at Spiegelberg Stadium. Roseburg (8-1-1) finished tied with South Eugene atop the conference standings after the Axemen were upset by Grants Pass 2-1. Due to the league tiebreaker, South Eugene will enter the playoffs as the number one seed, while the Indians take the number two spot. The Roseburg girls (7-3) also finished as co-champions with a 2-1 overtime win over South Medford at Finlay Field. Shae Yuma scored in the 94th minute and teammate Beka Lofstedt added another goal just four minutes later on an assist from Chelsie Heberling as the Indians split their season series with the Panthers. Roseburg will play a tiebreaker match with Sheldon (7-3) on Tuesday with date and time yet to be determined.
