RHS softball player signs letter with Portland State
By Katie Boer KPIC NewsROSEBURG, Ore. -- A Roseburg High student signed a letter of intent Wednesday morning to play softball for Portland State. Senior Crysta Conn signed with the Vikings in the athletic department at Roseburg High School. Conn was supported by her current coach, parents and other members of the media, as she reflected on her high school career and how she's excited for a new level of intensity. "When you go to college, all the girls are there for a reason, because they want to go to the next level and play. That's what I'm excited about, because everyone there is wanting to play and win." Conn, who will likely play third base for Portland State, is the first member of her family to play athletics at a collegiate level. For now, she's just focusing on the season in front of her and conditioning. RHS softball coach Tony Campos said, "It's very, very satisfying to get a lot of their schooling paid for and Crysta has worked extremely hard to get to where she is today, and its all paid off." Conn said about the transition to college, "I think I'll fit in good, it's gonna be a lot more focus and intensity and staying in the game." The Vikings offered Conn a scholarship for over $14,000 a year, covering nearly all of her tuition, books and housing. She won't be alone at Portland State, she joins former Indian second baseman Brandi Campos, a four-time all conference player from Roseburg. |
