South Umpqua boys win Tip-Off Title

Jansen scored 19 points apiece as South Umpqua beat Glide 71-52 to capture the championship trophy at the Douglas Tip-Off Tournament Saturday night in Winston. The Lancers (4-1) trailed by three after the opening quarter before taking a 31-26 lead at the break. Levi Bonnell and Braden Smith had 12 points each to lead the Wildcats (3-1). Oakland took home the consolation title with a 70-63 overtime win over host Douglas. Senior Patrick Goodman led the Oakers (2-2) with 25 points, while Trojans guard Ricky Cortes had a game-high 27 points in the loss. Jessica Strader had 14 points in Glide's 37=30 victory over South Umpqua in the girls consolation final. Junior Angel Lockwood had 14 for the Lancers. The Douglas girls won the tournament title over Oakland 46-38 behind 13 points from Taylor Bond. Three other boys teams were in action Saturday as Sutherlin lost at Phoenix 72-48; Triad downed Days Creek 56-50; and Austin Stone had 22 points in Umpqua Valley Christian's 73=53 win over Chiloquin. On the girls side, Sutherlin got by Phoenix 46-38; Riddle beat Days Creek 55-40; and UVC downed the Rogue River JV 42-37. Dani Rocco led the Monarchs with 12 points.
