UCC splits final day of tournament Saturday

The Umpqua Community College volleyball team finished the Walla Walla volleyball tourney on a winning note Saturday with a two-game sweep of Wenatchee Valley, 25-21, 25-8.

With the victory, Umpqua finished out tournament play with a 2-4 record.

Earlier Saturday, the Riverhawks fell to Blue Mountain, 25-18, 25-20.

In Friday's matches, the Riverhawks defeated Big Bend 25-9, 25-13 after losing in straight sets earlier in the day to Spokane (25-6, 25-20) and tournament host Walla Walla (25-19, 25-21). UCC's other loss in the tournament took place Thursday, also against Walla Walla (25-22, 25-17, 25-22).

Prior to competing in the tourney, Umpqua enjoyed a victory in its only home match this season so far, a three-set win over Edmonds (25-17, 25-13, 25-17).

The Riverhawks, which feature eight sophomores and four freshman this season, hit the net once again with a match at Big Bend in Moses Lake (Wash.) on Thursday, September 13, before traveling to the Spokane Tournament (Sep. 14-15).
