Bayless impressive in summer league opener
By Associated PressLAS VEGAS (AP) _ Jerryd Bayless had an impressive debut for the Portland Trail Blazers in the Las Vegas Summer League opener. The first-round pick in last month's draft scored 28 points to lead the Blazers to a 78-73 win over the Washington Wizards. Bayless showed an ability to drive to the basket, getting to the free-throw line 23 times and converting 18 of those attempts. Finnish guard Petteri Koponen had 19 points for the Blazers and displayed a good outside shot. Koponen was a first-round pick in the 2007 draft but spent last season honing his skills in Europe. Meanwhile, former Lake Oswego High star Kevin Love had 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds Monday night in his debut for the Minnesota Timberwolves at the NBA Summer League. Love had four points and four fouls in a rough first quarter before settling in and showing why he was the fifth overall pick in the draft. |
