MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Vikings coach Brad Childress says Brett Favre won't come out retirement to play for Minnesota.

Childress confirmed to The Associated Press in a text message on Tuesday that the three-time MVP quarterback for the Green Bay Packers would not join his team.

The story was first reported by The Star Tribune on its Web site.

Childress told the paper Favre did not want to put himself through the grind of another football season.

Favre came out of retirement last year to play for the New York Jets. He retired again after the 2008 season and had surgery in May to alleviate a torn biceps tendon.
