This is the story of Max, a rambunctious and sensitive boy, who feels misunderstood at home and escapes to an island where he meets mysterious and strange creatures whose emotions are as wild and unpredictable as their actions.  The "Wild Things" long for a leader, and Max longs for a kingdom to rule, but once crowned king he finds that his relationship with the island creatures is more complex than he initially imagined.

Reporter Bob Wilton is in search of his next big story when he encounters Lyn Cassady, a shadowy figure who claims to be part of an experimental U.S. military unit.  According to Cassaday, the new army is changing the way wars are fought with unparalleled psychic powers that can read the enemy's thoughts, pass through solid walls, and even kill a goat by simply staring at it.  Now the program's founder has gone missing and Cassaday's mission is to find him.  Intrigued by his new aquaintances far fetched stories, Bob decides to accompany him on the search.
