Elk Viewed Off Hwy 138 East A Rare Sight

I had heard stories of individuals seeing a herd of elk off Highway 138 east near Singleton Road over the past couple of weeks but had not been able to view them myself. I have had my camera ready each time I have driven from our Glide home into Roseburg but it seemed it wasn't meant for me to see them. That is until my sister-in-law called me this afternoon on her way to work to say she had just saw them for the first time herself. So grabbing my camera, I jumped into my Jeep and made the six mile drive to where they were reportedly being seen. I was pleasantly pleased to see more than 25 cow and calf elk grazing in the pasture along the North Umpqua Highway's beautiful Scenic Byway. The elk captured the attention of many, with viewers stopping to get a closer look with their binoculars.
As I snapped pictures a heron flew up from the pond and land in a tree above the elk adding to the beautiful sight. A treasured gift for certain.
