What is that thing? I first thought it was a pheasant, my wife thought it was a buzzard. I got home and checked the internet, and it looks like a vulture. I didn't realize they would be around here in town.
My first thought when I think of vultures are the ones from Disney's Jungle Book, with the British accents. I suppose it looks a little like that.

That's a turkey vulture all right. The Oregon Zoo site says that they are sometimes attracted by the odor of gas leaks--wouldn't THAT be a story! They migrate back up here for the summer from the tropics so maybe this guy just needed a rest.
